A practice manual for renewing Ukrainian trade mark registrations. This is not a jurisdiction to be judged on the ordinary rules alone. Special legislation has suspended procedural deadlines under martial law since 2022. Concluding that a case whose expiry date has passed has lapsed means abandoning a right that is still alive; conversely, relying on the suspension and doing nothing leaves every deadline arriving at once when it lifts.

2. Anchor date and due-date calculation (ordinary rules)
The anchor is the filing date and renewal falls due on its tenth anniversary. The dates below are the ordinary calculation, without the martial law measure applied.
Worked example
The ordinary schedule for a registration filed 2020-06-15.
| Item | Formula | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Window opens | Expiry − 6 months | 2029-12-15 |
| Renewal due | Filing + 10 years | 2030-06-15 |
| Grace ends | Due date + 6 months (50% surcharge) | 2030-12-15 |
| Martial law measure | Suspended periods resume 60 days after martial law ends | Date unknown |
| Next due date | Every 10 years thereafter | 2040-06-15 |
3. Suspension of deadlines under martial law
- Special legislation adopted in 2022 suspends procedural periods in intellectual property matters.
- Suspended periods resume sixty days after martial law ends.
- The resumption date therefore cannot be fixed today. It is more accurate to hold the case in a suspended state than to write a date into the docket.
- When periods resume, the suspended deadlines arrive together. Prepare a list of Ukrainian cases in advance so they can be reviewed in one pass once resumption is announced.
- Where Ukraine is designated through an international registration, renewal goes to WIPO under the Madrid rules.
4. Grace period and surcharge (ordinary rules)
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Grace period | 6 months from the due date |
| Surcharge | 50% of the renewal fee |
| If missed | The right lapses — no restoration |
| After lapse | The former proprietor holds a priority position for two years |
5. Lapse and restoration
Under the ordinary rules the right lapses at the end of the grace period and there is no restoration. For two years afterwards, however, the former proprietor is given a priority position when refiling the same mark. That widens the room to refile; it does not keep the right in force.
6. Official fees
For designations made through an international registration, the individual fee is set in Swiss francs, at 383 plus 77 per additional class. Hryvnia fees for direct filings are revised often and move with exchange rates, so confirm locally when quoting.
7. Management checklist
- The filing date, from which the ordinary expiry date is derived.
- Do not clear cases past expiry as lapsed; the period may be suspended.
- Hold such cases in a suspended state rather than writing a resumption date, and review them together once resumption is announced.
- Keep a list of Ukrainian cases ready, since deadlines will arrive together.
- Whether the case is a direct filing or a Madrid designation, the latter following the Madrid rules.
- Confirm fees and the scope of the measure locally, and keep the basis on the case.
Sources, cut-off date and disclaimer
This manual is based on iphere's August 2026 survey of country-by-country overseas maintenance rules, together with values produced by the deadline engine that runs on those same rules. Official fees and deadline rules change by office notice, so please confirm against the official source and your local agent before any actual payment or filing.
